Thanks for the link and I love the linux action up there!
Million and million of people related Christmas with Christianity Religion, the answer is simple:
"Christ" and "Mas", ok?
Stupid idea insert icon Christmas in excellent and open source program.
Simple: try and think a bit more.
Noone stated it was a Christmas hat, it is a cure Santa Hat. Santa hat is NOT christian.
I think poster #2 needs to fuck right the hell off and write his own software in Arabic if he has such a problem with it. Fucking dick.
Stunningly stupid PC twits: They could put a cross or a star of David there if they felt like it. It’s their app. Stop using the software if you don’t like the hat. And before you use amazingly cool free software in the future, make sure you send the authors a questionnaire to make sure all of their beliefs and views exactly align with yours so you can’t possibly take offense.
Could be even worse…

I really like VLC player but that hat…
I find this offensive. How do I get rid of it?
Love it! Totally made my day when I noticed the little hat up in my Ubuntu panel
Thank you!
@Dan: recompile VLC or pay me to create an option for it.
You want the santa hat icon? No problem.
You want me to donate money? No chance.
I give money to the makers of all the open source programs I use, but I won't be donating to you.
In post #9, you arrogantly said, "recompile VLC or pay me to create an option for it."
Wrong. Recompile without it or with an option, or you won't get paid. I'll keep using VLC, you just won't get any benefit in return. And I'll tell others not to as long as the icon remains.
Jesus did not wear a red fluffly hat, Sinterklaas wore red, so do stoplights, bell peppers and the numbers on most alarm clocks.
I'm not Christian, or Catholic, or any denomination of any religion that could possibly conceive of a reason to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
But I think the hat is cute.
@Dan: uninstall VLC? don't run it until the holidays are over? modify the source code? plenty of options. off you go - let us know how it turns out.
Very cute and pleasant surprise. Brightened up my miseral day. Thanks VideoLAN.
@A Smith: You just seem to not understand the basics.
No, I don't.
I just don't see why I would spend my own free time to add and maintain an option that I found useless and that would calm down a small minority of people seeing religion everywhere, especially when there is nothing to see. It is just a f**king nice cute hat that celebrates the holiday season.
For what it's worth, I'm a Muslim and I think the icon is cool. Who said you have to be a Christian to enjoy the Christmas season?
I've often found that people who can't respect other people's beliefs are actually insecure about their own...
JBK,
I've clicked on a few links to try to find out how to disable the Santa hat icon. I'm surprised to find that you've been ignoring requests from users for *two years* to provide an alternative.
You respond with arrogance and rudeness, which certainly displays that you haven't learned anything, nor have you matured in that time. (Sort of like your software, in fact.) I will be using other media players in the future, and I regret having ever donated to VLC's furtherance.
For anyone that finds this 'Offensive' ... get a life
@stacey: we did not receive any nice requests to have an option to deactivate it until last week... And therefore the next version will have a way to deactivate it.
