Best Media Player Software

I tried a lot of different media players around the market in order to know which one is the best.
Results
Under Windows, WMP > BSPlayer > VLC media player
Under Linux, Xine > MPlayer > VLC media player
Explanations
Well, this is easy, as WMP is in its 11th version, as BSPlayer is around 2.2, and VLC has not even reached version 1, the math should be easy, higher number, higher quality... No? :D
For linux, 1.1.6 > 1.0rc1 > 0.8.6b
Same for IE7 that MUST be better than Firefox because firefox' version is 2.

You made a BIG mistake in your post. WMP's quality is not good due to its rather low mid and high low frequencies.
I would say a three way tie between Media Player Classic + KL Codec Pak, VLC and SMPlayer.
PS: I concider VLC one of the best among public domain/opensource works, topped by:
1. Sherlok Holmes

what does the revision and version have todo with something better? that's very trivial and useless info. Media player has so many b/c it sux. VLC is better than wmp, and bsplayer? never heard of it so worse than wmp maybe. Winamp sux b/c its too slow but it used to be good back in the 90's.
Of course, it is unrelated, THIS was A JOKE...
Only stupid people think that software with big numbers are better !
Bs player used to be good, now unless you buy the pro version it has Addware in it. I like Media player Classic.

ok my views, MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC from K-LiteCodec pak, is top. VLC player for me is 2nd choice especially during an emergency to play any other video files (especially corrupted ones) that occasionally can't be played by any other players. 3rd choice gotta be same old "Realplayer or Real-Alternative", i'll admit alot of porns i downloaded are in rm, rmb, rmbv format. and 4th favourite is back to same old WMP11. BSPlayer is above avegerage player. but i don't like the interface, but again, using it as 5rd choice back up player.
