Waiting with bated breath for VLC RT! It'll probably be *the* killer app for Windows RT. Given all the problems with the platform and the abysmal adoption rate, wonder why Microsoft didn't choose to fund this brilliant effort. They'd really have done themselves a *huge* favor if there was a program like VLC available for Windows RT right from Day 1. Although perhaps it's better that Microsoft has no control over this. Go VLC team!

I still get the chills from a project I worked on while reading your post, been there done that when a financial institute decided to move some legacy code to use the latest API's.

Great to see this work progressing and that you're contributing valuable learning and infrastructure back to the community.

As someone who used to be a developer at Microsoft and worked a lot on Windows 8/RT, I must say I'm confused that anyone would say it's "impossible" to use the WinRT ABI from C (or vanilla C++). After all, it is in an ABI, there's really no reason at all it wouldn't work. It's designed like that for a reason! There may not be as many conveniences for raw C developers as there were in classic COM (i.e. I don't think WinRT IDL includes C-compatible symbols) but those are always just that, conveniences.

Anyway, glad to see the update. Good luck with the rest of the project!

Has anyone noticed any audio playback problems on 3gp video files with VLC 2.0.6? I appear to be getting gaps in the playback (sometimes the playback is virtually inaudible). QuickTime & VLC 2.0.5 work perfectly fine.

Thanks for the update, glad that you didn't give up after running into so many hurdles, you should feel proud that you managed to accomplish things that the microsoft engineers didn't think were even possible. is it still on track for a late June release date, or are we looking at a July release date?

Also, I suggest posting this update to kick starter, a lot of the backers are getting impatient because of lack of updates. Maybe let whoever runs the VLC page to retweet your tweet, so it doesn't get lost like one of your previous shorter updates

VLC will be able to run on 512MB RAM WP8 Devices, like Lumia 620. Right?
(I think WP8 restrict apps to use 150MB RAM on such devices)

Can't wait to use it on my Lumia 620. I hope it releases soon. Please keep us updated with such news!

I need to output video into 2 specific windows in my application, that is windows with specific HWND ids. I understand that something like this could be achieved using the clone filter. However, if I specify a command line argument "--vout-filter=clone", I somehow need to pass the HWND handles to it. I thought maybe through "clone-vout-list" but I can't find documentation about it anywhere, I've been searching for hours.

Can VLC make an outbound API call to my server when it starts streaming? I am working on a usage based application and I need VLC to make a call to top-up the usage quota for a user.

The API call will be SOAP based and can be provided in the form of a URL.
